On Friday, Aug. 14, a Cherry Hill resident's dog got into an altercation with a skunk in their backyard, the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services said.
The Animal Control Officer for Cherry Hill picked up the skunk and arranged for rabies testing at the state Public Health & Environmental Laboratories in Trenton. The skunk was later confirmed to be rabid, authorities said. There were no known human exposures to this skunk, authorities said.
The dog's owner was notified and the dog had been previously vaccinated for rabies, authorities said. The dog received a rabies booster shot and will be under confinement and observation for 45 days, authorities said.
