Question About Technology? Just Ask Greg

With technology constantly changing it’s not always easy to keep up. Computers, iPads, iPods and smartphones require a lot of knowledge and if you’re like most people and skip over most of the instructions when you first get a new device, you may find yourself in trouble later. That’s where Greg Carlin comes in.

Every Wednesday for the past year, Carlin has run “Gadgets with Greg,” offering technology help to those who need it. Whether it is downloading an eBook on a new Kindle or setting up a program on a new computer, Carlin can find a way to solve your problem.

Although only 13 years old, Carlin, who is from Armonk, already knows that he wants to work with computers when he gets older.

“I’ve built a couple websites and game programs,” he said. “I really like doing that kind of stuff.”

Though some issues take a little longer than others to solve, such as merging a set of contacts from one device to another, Carlin has yet to meet a problem that he couldn’t figure out.

“Everyone leaves happy,” he said.

Some days may be slow but Carlin says there are sessions where he spends the entire time with one person trying to figure something out, a challenge he looks forward to.

Carlin started “Gadgets with Greg” to fulfill volunteer hours for his CCD classes. He decided to stick with it even after the classes ended and hopes to keep the program going in the future.

“Gadgets with Greg” is held every Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Bedford Free Library. There is no registration and no fee.
