Alexander Cruz, 38, of Route 6, Carmel, was wanted on a bench warrant issued in late 2014 for missing a court appearance to answer to a charge of grand larceny in connection with the use of a stolen credit card.
Members of the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit found out while conducting surveillance that Cruz had been possibly staying in an apartment in the hamlet.
Cruz was accused of possessing crack cocaine, marijuana, needles and $1,300 in cash. During his arrest for the bench warrant, he was also charged with jumping bail, third- and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, and possession of a hypodermic instrument.
Cruz was taken to Putnam County Correctional Facility without bail. If found guilty, he could face up to 25 years in prison and fines up to $30,000.
Deputies also found two children in the home that contained narcotics residue, drug paraphernalia, garbage and animal waste. Putnam County Child Protective Services was notified, and the children remained in the custody of their mother.
