Along with the breakfast, County Executive MaryEllen Odell will honor veterans, law enforcement and current military members with a ceremony along Lake Gleneida, and also unveiling a new flag commemorating the 9/11 terrorist attacks that will be part of the Row of Honor.
The breakfast is set to run from 9 to 11 a.m., with Odell's ceremony due to start at 10 a.m.
“Starting the spring Row of Honor season on Armed Forces Day and during Police Week makes sense,” said Odell in a statement. “The kick-off pancake breakfast is a touching way to bring out veterans, along with their family members and friends, together as we honor the memories of lost soldiers and remember the sacrifice of all those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, law enforcement and emergency services.”
The Row of Honor features more than 100 flags along the shore of Lake Gleneida with names of veterans, law enforcement officers and first responders, and is set up in May and November on the occasion of Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
The cost of a flag is $100, with proceeds going to the return of the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall in September. Checks can be made payable to the Joint Veterans Council and sent to PC Veterans Service Agency, Donald B. Smith Government Campus, 110 Old Route 6, Bldg. 3, Carmel, NY 10512.
A donation of $8 per person or $12 per family for the breakfast is suggested.
