The borough will host a safety event for seniors at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the municipal building. The discussion is co-sponsored by the Prospect Park police and recreation departments.
John Kerr, recreation director, said he spread the word with the network of seniors he knows from other events.
"This time of year seniors are the most vulnerable demographic of the population," Kerr told Daily Voice. "[We] wanted to make sure the seniors in the community would be forewarned and forearmed."
Topics will include burglary, identity theft, and phone and Internet scams. Kerr said the 10 most common Internet scams all target seniors while most door-to-door schemes do as well.
"We wanted to make sure they knew what to look out for to keep themselves safe," he said.
The seminar will run until 7:30 p.m. and be led by Police Chief Charlie Atie. Refreshments will be served.
Kerr said he doesn't know how many people will attend but the feedback he has heard so far has been positive.
