The assault happened at the Dollar Tree in the 700 block of Chester Pike in Prospect Park, Delaware County on Monday, Aug. 3, according to the Prospect Park Police Department.
After she was inappropriately touched, the girl immediately took her younger sister into a public restroom, locked the door, and called for help, police said in the initial release issued on Thursday, Aug. 6.
The girl was safe and was not physically injured, according to police.
"She handled an incredibly difficult and frightening situation with remarkable composure," police said. "Those quick actions were exactly the right thing to do and likely helped prevent the situation from escalating."
Police initially released surveillance images of a person of interest and asked the public for help identifying the individual.
Additional information released on Friday morning, Aug. 7, showed the suspect left the Dollar Tree and headed west on Chester Pike before entering the McDonald's, where he changed his appearance, according to police.
The suspect then continued along Chester Pike toward Ridley Park and Ridley, police said.
Updated surveillance photos were released as investigators continued working to identify the suspect.
Police had initially declined to speculate about the person's gender or gender identity, instead asking the public to focus on identifying the individual shown in the surveillance images. In Friday's update, police referred to the suspect as "he."
Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information is asked to call the Prospect Park Police Department at 610-534-2222. Police said tips can be made anonymously and urged people to come forward even if they believe their information may be minor.
