Fairfield Prep's Connor Rog won the 3,200 meter race and Fairfield Warde's Harry Warnick had two third-place finishes in Saturday's State Open track and field meet at the New Haven Athletic Center.
Rog won the 3,200 in 9:25.28 for Prep's only points in the meet. Rog was followed across the finish line by Weston's Stephen Vento (9:31.02) and Warnick (9:31.92). Rog's time is ranked 23rd in the nation, according to ESPNRISE, which monitors high school track and field results.
Warnick also finished third in the 1,600, running 4:21.91. Warnick, a junior, is ranked 40th in the country in that event and 52nd in the 3,200.
Fairfield Ludlowe finished fifth in the 4x800 with Andrew Fernandes, Robert Thottam, Michael Frasco and Jack White. They clocked in at 8:10.89, a drop of nearly 11 seconds from their seeded time. Staples won the race in 8:06.56. Tyler Schwarz (fourth in the 55 meters, sixth in the 300) also had a terrific meet for Ludlowe.
Complete results are available online. The top six runners in each event qualify for the New England championships on March 4 in the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College in Massachusetts.
