POUND RIDGE, N.Y. The Pound Ridge Library will present the second class in a three-part series on astronomy for anyone 8-years-old and up this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The series of workshops entitled, Whats Up?: An Introduction to the Night Sky, are led by elementary school science teacher and Pound Ridge resident Alan Alterman.
For Saturdays class Planetarium Session Alterman will use the StarLab portable planetarium system.
It can project images of the northern hemispheres night sky from any time of the year, he said. It helps students recognize and learn new constellations.
Students will observe how some constellations seem to rise and set, while others circle the Polar Star. They will also be able to see how the night sky is different from Pound Ridge, at the North Pole, and the equator.
The final class Stamford Observatory Session will be held at the Stamford Observatory at 151 Scofield Town Road in Stamford, Conn. It will take place in March, but the final date is still to be announced. Students will have an opportunity to use the observatorys 22-inch telescope to see stars, planets, nebulae and galaxies.
