The investigation targeted an establishment at 96 Main St. in Poughkeepsie, known as The Derby, after authorities received numerous community complaints about alcohol being served to minors, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department said on Monday, April 20.
Police conducted the operation in coordination with the New York State Liquor Authority as well as the city’s fire and building departments.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that roughly 20 percent of the patrons inside the bar were underage, police said.
As a result, two bartenders were arrested and charged with first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child, a misdemeanor. Their names were not made public.
Authorities also said they discovered multiple fire and building code violations at the location. The violations were serious enough that the establishment was deemed unsafe and ordered closed, police said.
The bar will remain closed until all violations are corrected and the property is brought into compliance, according to the department.
Meanwhile, the New York State Liquor Authority’s investigation is still ongoing.
