Bertolozzi will appear at the Barnes & Noble at 2518 South Road in Poughkeepsie Friday, April 29, where he will sign CDs of his newly released “Tower Music/Musique de la Tour.”
The event, which will include a question and answer period, starts at 7 p.m.
Bertolozzi, a Beacon resident, became the object of wide international attention after he placed microphones around the Hudson River span to catch sounds, which he then combined with music.
Originally intended to be an art installation piece created for the 400th anniversary of English sea explorer Henry Hudson’s trip up the eponymous river, “Bridge Music” ended up as a CD and made it to No. 18 on the Billboard Classical Crossover Music Chart.
According to his website, Bertolozzi “harvested” sounds from the Eiffel Tower by placing microphones on various points.
He worked with a sound engineer – and reportedly, hammers, mallets, and logs – to produce the music.
He got permission to use the architectural landmark after promising to use techniques that would not damage its structural integrity,
He also had to provide “safe conditions” for the musicians, Bertolozzi’s website said
The “Tower Music” album was released on the innova label.
The Dutchess County Tourism Bureau was among the many sponsors of the new work, Bertolozzi’s site said.
Friday’s celebration of the album’s release will include Parisian snacks and giveaways.
