The commission, created by executive order, will help expand community awareness and the presence of art in various ways.
Rolison, along with Arts Mid-Hudson and 8th Ward City Council member Matthew McNamara led the creation of the commission at the request of the arts community.
“On behalf of all in the Arts community, we applaud Mayor Rolison on his executive order in creating the first City of Poughkeepsie Public Arts Commission,” said Linda Marston-Reid, executive director of Arts Mid-Hudson. “The Commission will promote public participation and strengthen the local economy by attracting and promoting local artists, encourage cultural tourism, and create opportunities for training and employment in a range of creative fields.”
“We as a community need to recognize that the arts are an essential part of the City of Poughkeepsie’s cultural vitality,” added McNamara.
The commission will consist of seven members: three appointed by the mayor, three appointed by the Common Council, and one appointed by a majority vote of the commission.Click here to follow Daily Voice and receive free news updates.
