Fighting the blaze was a challenge for the several fire departments at the scene of the Cheney Building in the abandoned psychiatric center. Firefighters got the call at around 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, for an active fire, and it took close to an hour to get it under control, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports.

There are plans to turn the center into a mixed residential and commercial development, the Poughkeepsie Journal says. Anyone with information about the fire should call Town of Poughkeepsie police at (845)-485-3670.
