PEEKSKILL -- Theres plenty to do this holiday weekend throughout the city.
The Peekskill Farmers Market will be held Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Bank Street. Shop for plants, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, cheeses and other locally made products.
On Sunday, the Peekskill Attic Treasurers Flea Market will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Bank Street. Come search for clothes, shoes, electronics, books, video games and tons more.
The city will celebrate Independence Day Monday with a full slate of events. The festivities will start at 10 a.m. with a parade starting on Highland Avenue. The parade will be followed by laying of wreaths at the World Trade Center steel memorial in Riverfront Green Park in recognition of the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Though the fireworks show start at 9:30 p.m. at the Riverfront Green Park, theres plenty to do on site as early as 4 p.m. A patriotic concert will be provided by the city starting at 7 p.m. and food and beverage vendors will be on hand from 4 p.m. until the fireworks begin. Firework attendees are encouraged to donate $1 per person on entry toward 2012 fireworks and parade costs, which are paid for through the fundraising efforts of the Peekskill Fire Department.
There will also be live entertainment in the city this weekend to suite almost any musical taste: Friday 12 Grapes will feature the band Buried in Blue and The Myles Mancuso Band Saturday. Both shows begin at 9:30 p.m. and admission is $5 for everyone, including diners. There will also be a free show by Melissa Frabotta Sunday at 6 p.m.
The Division Street Grill will have jazz music by Laura Benjamin & A.J. Hoyt Friday and Doug Smith on Saturday. Both shows begin at 7 p.m. The BeanRunner Café will have the ANJ Trio featuring percussionist Art Hightower, Norm Lotz on bass and John Basile on guitar Friday night. On Saturday, vocalist Rosetta Watts will perform the music of the Roaring Twenties. Both shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $10.
The Peekskill Coffee House will feature the acoustic rock and folk pop of Ardvaarks Friday and the alternative rock sounds of Radio Rental on Saturday.
