Michelle Sperry is bringing back etiquette ... one cell phone call at a time. The founder of the Fleur de Lis Academy in Wilton is a stickler for good manners, and not just to be socially correct. Sperry, who lives in Weston, says they're one of the keys to success.
With people talking loudly on cell phones in restaurants and not replying to e-mails, it may seem like manners are dead. Not so says Sperry. It's just that no one has written the book on how to adapt them to changing times.
"I think [people] want good manners and I think they have good manners," she says. "I think they just aren't sure how to use them."
So the mission of Fleur de Lis is to teach this lost art through classes in etiquette and dance, beginning in September. There's Tutus and Tea for young girls, Burps, Burgers and Boys for young gentlemen, and lessons for college students and adults, in all over 25 to choose from.
Dance instruction ranges from "mommy and me" beginner classes for mothers and their daughters to adult lessons. Sperry also hosts parties at the academy with themes such as Mermaids and Pirates. Her shop features dance and party accessories.
