Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, will start with lingering morning showers, patchy drizzle, and gray skies across parts of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, according to the National Weather Service.
The good news is that conditions should improve through the day for many areas, especially north of South Jersey.
A damp, cool start will give way to a warmer and brighter workweek. Sunshine becomes more widespread on Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27, with highs climbing toward 80 degrees across much of the region.
Outdoor plans look strongest from North Jersey into New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts after Monday morning. Afternoon barbecues, late-day walks, and evening gatherings should be workable in many spots as the holiday improves from west to east.
South of South Jersey, including Maryland and Virginia, the recovery will be slower early Monday as a nearby coastal system keeps clouds and dampness around longer. By Tuesday and Wednesday, that part of the region also turns much more favorable.
In New York, Monday starts with rain tapering to showers, with highs in the low 70s. Tuesday is mostly sunny near 80 degrees. Wednesday stays around 80 degrees. Thursday, May 28, brings sun and scattered afternoon showers, followed by a mostly sunny Friday, May 29, in the low 70s.
In New Jersey, Monday brings morning clouds and spotty showers before brighter conditions develop. Highs will be in the low 70s. Tuesday turns mostly sunny, near 80 degrees. Wednesday is partly sunny, with temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s. Thursday and Friday look mainly dry, with highs in the 70s.
In Connecticut, Monday starts with drizzle and fog, then gradually clears in the afternoon. Highs will be in the low 70s. Tuesday turns partly sunny and summery, with highs in the low 80s. Wednesday reaches the mid-80s before temperatures settle back into the 70s late in the week.
In Massachusetts, Monday brings morning showers ending with partial clearing and highs near 70 degrees. Tuesday turns partly to mostly sunny, near 80 degrees. Wednesday will be warm and dry, with inland highs in the mid-80s. Thursday turns breezy, and Friday stays partly sunny.
In Pennsylvania, early showers clear Monday, leaving mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s. Tuesday is mostly sunny, with temperatures in the upper 70s. Wednesday reaches the low 80s. Thursday and Friday look mostly sunny, with highs in the 70s.
In Maryland, Monday turns drier by afternoon, though clouds linger. Highs will be in the mid-70s. Tuesday and Wednesday look mostly sunny to partly sunny, with highs in the low 80s. Thursday and Friday stay mainly sunny, with highs in the 70s.
In Virginia, Monday brings a mostly dry afternoon with breaks of sun and highs in the upper 70s. Tuesday and Wednesday are mostly sunny to partly sunny, with highs in the low 80s. Thursday and Friday look dry and pleasant, with highs in the mid- to upper 70s.
