The Gulfstream G100 was carrying six people toward Boston when it lost contact with flight controllers early Saturday, Oct. 3, NBC News reported.
The aircraft, a medical jet, rapidly descended from about 24,000 feet to 11,000 feet, according to CBS News.
The US Coast Guard launched air and surface crews to search for the missing aircraft. Its Northeast District identified the search area as waters off Nantucket, Massachusetts, according to NBC News.
Steve MacKinnon, Canada's minister of transport, reported that four of those on board are Canadians.
According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), the group included two Canadian pilots, two Canadian medical workers, one patient, and the patient's relative.
