Officials confirmed late on Wednesday that the person who was pulled from the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland was 24-year-old Phoenix Phillips, who was reported missing on Friday, Oct. 2, after attending the Browns game downtown.
On Wednesday, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office listed Phillips on its log.
Phillips had last been seen in the 1400 block of W. 10th Street in Cleveland. Details about his disapearance have not been released.
Hours before officials confirmed Phillips' death, his mother took to social media to provide an update, calling the waiting "absolutely excruciating."
"The detective who worked around the clock on Phoenix’s missing-person case has been one of the kindest, most compassionate, and hardest-working people I have ever encountered," she posted. "I am incredibly grateful that he promised me he would always tell me the facts exactly as they were and never lie to me."
"When the body was initially recovered, the officers on the scene could not confirm the identity," Amanda Phillips added. "Commander Callahan immediately responded after I called and personally viewed the body. He told me that, based on what he saw, he is pretty certain that it is Phoenix."
As of Wednesday night, police haven't released any further information regarding what may have happened or a possible cause of death.
