NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Peter Mustich, 88, passed away on Tuesday at his home in New Rochelle. He was an active member of the Lions and Elks Clubs, as well as the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce. Mustich grew up in the Bronx, served his country in the South Pacific, and married his life-long love in 1948. He worked for NASA for 35 years before retiring. His last project was the Lunar Module, which helped launch the first manned moon mission.

The Mustich Family left a message on the blog:

“It is with deep sadness that I report on the passing of Peter Mustich of New Rochelle. My Uncle Peter is survived by his wife, Tina, his daughter, Deborah, his son Peter, Jr, and his wife and three sons.Peter is the brother of James, Anthony, Joseph, Angelo, Louis (d.), Anna, Louisa (d.), and Celeste, and son of the late Giuseppe and Angelina Mustich of the Bronx, NY.”

James O’Toole of the Business Improvement District called Mustich a “second Mayor” for the City of New Rochelle.

Mayor Noam Bramson provided the following statement:

"Peter set the gold standard for citizenship, devoting himself heart and soul to countless organizations that serve our community and making a positive difference in many lives.  Always a gentleman, he led by personal example, and he leaves a legacy of admiration and friendship among all privileged to work with him.  The civic gatherings he always enlivened will be diminished by his absence, and I will miss him very much."

Mass and a Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 9:30am at the Holy Name of Jesus Church. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers, it is asked that donations in Mustich's name be made to the American Heart Association.
