PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. Fairway Market is coming to the aid of tornado survivors in the Midwest and South by offering a donation program at the Pelham Manor store and the eight others in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
The supermarket decided to put the effort together because in the aftermath of 9/11, countless thousands of people from around country came to the aid of those who were affected by the attacks on the World Trade Center, according to a press release announcing the initiative.
The program, which starts Friday, March 9 and runs through Sunday, March 18, allows customers to make a donation of $1, $3, $5, or a case of water to the families impacted by the tornadoes that swept through the Midwest and South regions late last week.
Fairway will match up to $25,000 of the donations, which will be used to send truckloads of water, canned goods and other non-perishable items to distribution centers in Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois, Nebraska and Missouri, according to Fairway Markets.
