Lisa Daley has always loved to bake and five years ago turned that passion into a full-fledged business that still stands today on Boston Post Road in Pelham Manor. Daley owns The Bakery at Four Corners, a quaint store in the complex at the corner of Boston Post Road and Pelhamdale Avenue. The owner said she wants her shop to welcome customers to relax.
"I like the idea of having a confortable, easy spot where people can feel happy and safe," Daley said. "It's a go-to place for a number of reasons."
Daley said the store has undergone some cosmetic changes during the past five years. Today, customers can sit at the yellow tables and black chairs and enjoy cookies, brownies and even deli sandwiches.
The store is simply decorated with a handful of flower arrangements. A plain green awning hangs over the entrance. The far left wall has the most color, and even that is a simple brown and white striped pattern.
Daley does much of the baking at the store herself, though the volume has increased enough that she has hired some help. Her chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies are considered the yardstick for her shop and the foundation on which she built her bakery.
Customer service has also been a point of emphasis for Daley and her employees. Those behind the counter learn the habits of the commuters who enter the shop for breakfast on-the-go.
"If you've been here twice, the third time they'll know your order, Daley said.
Daley, who lives in Pelham Manor, said her store motto is "Happiness" and that the idea of stress-free simplicity drives her business.
"It shouldn't be stressful to get a cup of coffee," Daley said.
