Peekskill City School District Superintendent David Mauricio shared the news in a message to families on Friday, April 10, saying he plans to step down on Dec. 31, 2026.
He has led the Peekskill district for the past eight years and said the decision comes with “mixed and heartfelt emotions.”
"Leading as the superintendent for the past 8 years in Peekskill has been an incredible honor, and after 32 years serving children in the field of education, I cannot think of anywhere else I would rather conclude my career," Mauricio wrote.
Mauricio joined the district in 2018 and thanked the Board of Education, staff, parents, and the broader community for their support during his tenure.
“I would like to thank our amazing and supportive Board of Education, staff, parents and the entire Peekskill community for welcoming me when I arrived in 2018, and for truly making me feel like family,” he said.
He added that he will remain in his role through the end of the year and plans to help the Board of Education as it begins the search for his successor. More details about that process are expected in the coming months.
