Peekskill senior citizens celebrated Flag Day Tuesday at the city's annual senior picnic at Riverfront Green Park.
Seniors enjoyed a barbeque lunch and live entertainment all courtesy of the city. The annual event had a more patriotic flair this year since it fell on Flag Day, and flags and other patriotic decorations were on full display.
Peekskill Director of Community Services Fran Brunelle said the city decided to hold the event of Flag Day in order to celebrate both. Seniors were transported to the park by bus, he said.
"We do the regular senior pickup that brings them to the club and then from the club we bring them right down here, Brunelle said. "We've probably got close to 200 seniors."
