Peekskill School Board Picks Urbanowicz To Lead

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – It has been decided in a unanimous vote by the Peekskill City School District Board of Education, that Joseph Urbanowicz will take over as the board’s new president.

In May, Urbanowicz ran unopposed for a second term as trustee in this year’s school election. He is the director of facilities and transportation for the Ardsley School District and has also chaired the Peekskill district’s facilities committee. Urbanowicz, a graduate of Peekskill High School, has three children who also attended the Peekskill schools.

Michael Simpkins, the president from this past year, will remain on the board as a trustee. Unlike many neighboring districts, Peekskill’s board often elects a new president for each school year.

Vice President Fran Feuerman was reelected to her position, though she has served as president in previous years. Feuerman is the chief financial officer for the Westchester Library System.

The school board is looking for volunteers for several board committees, Urbanowicz said, most notably the newly established financial task force. “We have many committees where citizens can have a meaningful voice and make a real contribution to the district’s future,” Urbanowicz said. “Everyone is welcome.”
