Last year, Peekskill welcomed Driscoll Trinity Cruise Co. as the first river tour line based in Peekskill and Mayor Mary Foster would like to see more boating activities on the riverfront, the report said.
Foster reportedly told the Journal she would like to see a floating pier built in the river channel for historic tall ships in an effort to build tourism and boost commerce.
Capt. Mary Pat Driscoll and her husband own the Driscoll Trinity Cruise Co., choosing Peekskill as the home port of their 46-foot Evening Star, a former Coast Guard buoy tender, the report said. The company cruises to West Point, which reportedly attracts city dwellers who can get a discount train ticket with special boat packages.
Driscoll told the Business Journal that the getaway cruises were sold out last year every Sunday from May to October.
Among other new commerce-driving initiatives, the Yellow Brick Café opened this spring in a long-vacant retail space, the Peekskill Brewery reopened its brew pub last winter on South Water Street and a 76-room Holiday Inn Express hotel is expected to be completed this fall, according to the Westchester Business Journal.
