PEEKSKILL, N.Y. The city is gearing up for the first snowstorm of the year on Saturday.
The National Weather Service is predicting rain and snow for Saturday, mainly after 11 a.m., with a high of 37 degrees. Snow accumulation of up to four inches is possible.
The snow could be heavy at times overnight with an additional snow accumulation of nine inches possible before tapering off around 2 a.m. The overnight low is expected to be around 32 degrees.
The Peekskill Farmer's Market usually held on Bank Street on Saturdays has already been cancelled due to the impending storm, and the citys Department of Public Works is already prepping for snow, said Director of Planning Anthony Ruggiero.
Howie Wessels, (the DPW manager) has the trucks switched over to plows, and were prepared for whatever the weather is, Ruggiero said.
Local businesses also worked to prepare for the coming storm. At Peekskill Paints and Hardware on Main Street, staff worked to unload winter stock off a truck.
Were putting out rock salt, calcium and shovels, and weve already got a snowplow out front, said Peggy, a store employee.
