PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- A petit larceny arrest of a city man led to a separate grand larceny charge while in police custody, according to Peekskill Police.
Joseph Johnson, 45, of Peekskill was arrested on Jan. 9 at 6:40 p.m. and charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, on the 1000 block of Park Street by officer Jon Merritt. Johnson was charged with shoplifting from the C-Town Supermarket on Park Street after attempting to leave the store without paying for a bag of frozen shrimp.
Johnson was held for arraignment in city court but was then charged with the theft of a debit card from an apartment on Brown St. on Jan. 2. Johnson is further alleged to have used the debit card to withdraw money from the victims bank account. He was held for arraignment in city court.
Other arrests reported by Peekskill Police for the past week:
Rajeam Jackson, 18, of Peekskill was arrested on Jan. 10 at 1:40 a.m. and charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, on the 100 block of Hudson Ave by officer Mary Greenan. Jackson was charged with the theft of a cell phone that occurred in October 2011 in the vicinity of South and Smith Streets. He was held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court.
Tyrone Carter, 38, of Peekskill was arrested on Jan. 4 at 7:15 p.m. and charged with first-degree automobile unlicensed operation, a class E felony, on the 100 block of Nelson Avenue by officer Matt Basso. Carter was stopped for operating a vehicle with a cracked windshield and illegally tinted windows. Further investigation revealed Carters drivers license was suspended a total of 27 times leading to felony charges. He was held for arraignment in city court.
