PEEKSKILL, N.Y. A Peekskill man was sentenced Friday to 20 years in state prison after being found guilty of the 2010 rape of a neighbor, according to the office of Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore.
Gregory Hicks, 53, was found guilty of first-degree rape, a class B violent felony; two counts of first-degree criminal sexual act, a class B violent felony; and second-degree assault, a class D violent felony, in an assault on Oct. 22, 2010.
According to police, the victim and Hicks were in a laundry room at 1431 Park St. when Hicks kissed her and attempted to undress her.
When the woman said she did not want to have sex, police said Hicks became enraged, punching and kicking her. He pushed her to the ground and forcibly raped and sodomized her. Hick then fled, but residents heard the victims cries for help and contacted police.
Hicks was found outside the apartment complex within minutes and arrested, police said.
He was sentenced as a predicate violent felony offender because of a 2001 conviction for the violent felony offense of second-degree attempted robbery. Upon release from state prison, Hicks will be required to register as a sex offender and will remain under post-release supervision for 10 years.
