PEEKSKILL, NY -- A city man was arrested Saturday for attacking his roommate with a hammer, police said.
Kelly Govan, 51, was arrested on Nov. 19 at 11:50 p.m. and charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, on Maplewood Avenue by Police Officer Matt Basso.
The unnamed victim sustained injuries to his head and face as a result of the attack and was transported to the Hudson Valley Hospital Center for treatment, according to police.
Govan was taken into custody and held for arraignment in city court without bail.
Other arrests reported by Peekskill Police for the past week:
Robert Steele, 31, of Peekskill was arrested on Nov. 15 at 7:45 p.m. and charged with three counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor, at police headquarters by Detective Todd Gallaher.
Steele was charged following an investigation by Det. Gallaher into a report of stolen jewelry. The jewelry had been reported stolen from a residence in late September and a search of area jewelry stores resulted in the recovery of the stolen items. Further investigation led to Steeles arrest. Steele was held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court.
Francisco Portillo, 41, of Buchanan, was arrested on Nov. 15 at 6:15 p.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, a felony, on Welcher Ave. by Police Officer Ed Lemp. Portillo, who was previously convicted of DWI in 2008, was charged with a felony after becoming involved in an automobile accident on Welcher Avenue. Portillo refused to submit to a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol concentration and was additionally charged with this offense. He was held for arraignment in city court.
Walter Brito, 47, of Cortlandt was arrested on Nov. 15 at 11 p.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and second-degree assault, a class D felony on Reynolds Lane by Police Officer Chatoya Woodland.
Brito was charged with DWI after being found asleep at the wheel of his vehicle while it was stopped in the middle of the roadway on the 900 block of Reynolds Lane. While in police custody, Brito did head butt the arresting officer causing the officer to receive a laceration to his nose. Brito was additionally charged with Assault 2nd and held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court.
Nathaniel Tisdell, 25, of Peekskill, was arrested on Nov. 20 at 7:10 a.m. and charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, at Waterview Estates by Police Officer John Marchioni.
Tisdell, who was wanted for a domestic assault that occurred on Oct. 19, was located attempting to gain entry to an apartment belonging to the victim of the assault. He was taken into custody without incident and held for arraignment in city court without bail. He was also found to have an outstanding warrant out in Yorktown for criminal mischief.
