PEEKSKILL, N.Y. ? Peekskill High School may soon go wireless thanks to a grant from State Sen. Greg Ball (R, C-Patterson).
Superintendent James Willis told the Board of Education at its meeting Wednesday that the district has been offered funding by the 40th District lawmaker and has decided to spend it on a much-needed wireless Internet system for the high school.
"We recieved a letter from Senator Ball's office that he has put us in for a $75,000 grant and he has asked us how we would like to spend it," Willis said. "We contacted his office and told him we would check with Edutech. Edutech's price to put a wireless system in the high school was $92,000. We asked if they could do it for $75,000 and they said yes."
The district was told it would receive the grant sometime in the next fiscal year, Willis said.
The district is currently working to implement a new high-tech learning center at the high school, starting with an alternative education program next year.
"We had talked about getting a wireless program at the high school, but we didn't have the money for this coming year so this would be an ideal way to use it," Willis said.
