Peekskill Gets $425,000 Grant For Revitalization Projects

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Peekskill’s revitalization efforts will get a $425,000 shot in the arm, thanks to grant money coming from the state through the Regional Economic Development Council (REDC). The announcement of the funding came from State Senator Greg Ball (R-Patterson).

The grant is part of a $92.8 million package aimed at creating 84 projects across the Mid-Hudson region.

The money will go toward the following projects:

  • $250,000 for the Peekskill Downtown Project: Funds will be used to assist property owners in downtown Peekskill on Bank Street between Park Street and Main Street for building renovations. Funds will also be used for streetscape improvements on South Street as part of a comprehensive sidewalk, lighting and infrastructure improvements project to be undertaken by the city. The project anticipates participation by six or more property owners in the area with approximately four residential units and six commercial units to be assisted. All buildings being proposed for assistance are contributing buildings to the Downtown Historic District.
  • $125,000 for the Peekskill Multi-Use Waterfront Trail: Funds will be used to design a multi-use waterfront trail and related amenities along the Hudson River shoreline from Charles Point Pier Park to the Charles Point Marina and parking lot. This trail segment will advance Westchester County's planned Riverwalk.
  • $50,000 for the Peekskill Waterfront Revitalization: Funds will be used to update the city’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program adopted in 2004 to refine its vision for its waterfront area and adjacent downtown. Since the completion of the LWRP, the city has implemented many of the planned projects and initiatives. This update will incorporate a waterfront Blue Plan, which will focus on issues and opportunities extending beyond the city's shoreline and into the Hudson River.

State Senator Greg Ball (R-Patterson) announced the funding and said it I important the RECC, local officials and business owners work together to allocate the money in the best way possible.

“At the end of the day,” he said, “we must all work together as a team to support current businesses in New York, assist entrepreneurs in opening new businesses and legislatively and administratively continue to proactively reverse New York’s unfortunate and openly hostile business climate.”
