Peekskill Cops Search For Bank Robber, Release Security Footage

PEEKSKILL, NY - City police are on the lookout for a man who robbed a Chase bank at 1825 East Main Street this morning.

Police are searching for a black male with a thick build about 5'10" to 6'3" tall wearing a baseball cap and a dark jacket who they said entered the bank at approximately 11:15 a.m. and gave tellers a note saying he had a firearm and demanding money. The firearm was not displayed.

Bank security camera footage was released to the public Friday afternoon. The photos can be seen in the gallery above.

The suspect fled on foot over the fence in the rear of the bank and into wooded area after taking an undisclosed amount of money in a computer bag. He may have fled to the area around the Tutor Time daycare center, according to Peekskill Police spokesman Lt. Eric Johansen.

"We have some information that leads us to believe he may have gotten into a waiting vehicle that we believe may have ben a dark colored four door vehicle with front-end damage on the passenger side," Johansen said.

Peekskill Police were assisted at the scene by county police aviation and K-9 units as well as state police, he said. Area security cameras are being checked for more eveidence, he added.

The Chase bank, which sits between the First Hebrew Congregation building and the Beach Shopping Center, was open for business as of 1:30 p.m.
