PEEKSKILL, NY -- A fire Monday morning in the Chapel Hill condominium complex was put out before it could spread to other homes.
The fire at 5401 Manor Drive was reported to police by a neighbor at 10:34 a.m. When police and fire department officials arrived they found a structure fire with heavy smoke.
Police worked to evacuate the two adjacent condos while firefighters fought the blaze. The building was saved but the other two condos suffered smoke and water damage.
"We had it under control in approximately 25 minutes and totally out in 45 minutes," said Peekskill Police Chief Lenny Varella. "There were no injuries. Nobody was home at the time."
The three residents of the burned condo were not home. The fire is believed to have been accidental.
The Lake Mohegan and Buchanan fire departments assisted in the efforts and the Montrose and Continental Village departments provided standby assistance. The Peekskill Ambulance Corps set up a portable rehab station to help responders cool off and rehydrate
