The Tigers had a strong season last winter, and veteran Head Coach Jack Power is looking for more good things this winter.

"We had a good year last season," Power told Daily Voice. "We were strong in a lot of events, and finished second in the league, third in the Class C meet.

"Being a smaller school, we use the winter track season to prepare for our outdoor season, which is our real focus, because so many of our athletes are multi-sport athletes. A lot of our track kids are playing basketball, or doing other sports in the winter as well.

"But we have a nice group of kids - a lot of young kids this year," Power added. "So we're hoping to build a little bit. We have a good mix of a few veterans and a lot of young kids, and I'm excited about the group of field event kids, because we've got some really good girl throwers this year."

Power, who has coached at Pawling for the last 17 years, said his team doesn't have a lot of depth, but they do have some outstanding young runners, including eighth-grader Alex Petruso, ranked as one of the top young milers in the nation last year.

"The kids are working hard, and we're looking forward to a fun indoor season - with a bit of success here and there," Power said.

Pawling is set to open on December 6 at the Kickoff Meet at the Armory in Manhattan.
