In the fourth quarter last year, GameStop reported that global sales decreased nearly 15 percent, down to approximately $3 billion.
The closure comes on the heels of other brick-and-mortar staples such as Kmart , Sears and Macy’s announcing hundreds of closures throughout the country.
The company now plans to focus on its Spring Mobile wireless retail brand and sales of pop culture collectibles in an effort to turn business around, according to a CNN report. CNBC reported last month that digital video game downloads are up nearly 10 percent, furthering GameStop’s business woes.
