A Westport panhandler was arrested early Thursday morning in Southport on drug charges and allegedly threatened police in the process of his arrest, Fairfield police said.
Police received calls that Charles Vosgueritchian, 31, was panhandling on Post Road in the area of Dunkin Donuts and also in the Unquowa Road region. When police responded, Vosgueritchian, of West Parish Road, spotted them and rode his bicycle off towards Southport, down Post Road, to elude them, police said.
When he was found, police discovered a glass pipe with cocaine residue on it in his baseball hat, steel wool with burn marks and folds of paper with traces of white powder.
The arrest turned dangerous for Fairfield police when the man was brought to the station. He became combative, spitting and yelling at officers, refusing to be fingerprinted, police said. He allegedly yelled that "this is why buildings are blown up in this country. Your time will end soon and this is why your people are all dying."
Vosgueritchian was held in lieu of $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 9. He was charged with second-degree threatening, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering with an officer and breach of peace.
