Osteria 545, at 545 W. Broad St., announced on social media Monday, Nov. 17, that it will be closing. A date has not been announced.
"Osteria 545 was never just a business; it was an extension of our home," the owners, Rich and Lisa Shaget wrote on Facebook. "A place where we poured our hearts into every plate, every detail, every conversation. Over the years, we’ve made fast friends who became like family, and we’re endlessly grateful for the laughter, stories, and memories we’ve shared with you. "
The restaurant blamed economic pressures for the closure.
"Over the past year, we’ve witnessed a significant shift—fewer people dining out, while the costs of food, liquor, electricity, and other essentials have risen sharply," the Shagets wrote. "These increases have far outpaced what small, independent restaurants like ours can reasonably absorb, making this decision both heartbreaking and necessary."
The Shagets said they tried to hold on by adjusting menus, tightening budgets and doing everything possible to stay afloat.
"The margins continued to shrink, and the weight became unsustainable," the Shagets wrote. "Thank you for being part of this journey. For every meal shared, every kind word, every moment of connection. You’ve made this place feel alive. We’ll carry your love with us always."
