Oreo Cookies and Creme Filled Ghosts are now being sold at major retailers nationwide. The ghost-shaped candies feature a dark chocolatey shell filled with Oreo cookie pieces and creme.
The seasonal treat was created by Frankford Candy, a Philadelphia company that has partnered with other brands on shaped candy products. The Oreo Ghosts are sold in 7-ounce bags and come with about 21 individually wrapped candies.
Unlike a traditional Oreo, the new candy has a smoother texture than fans might expect from a cookie.
"The biggest surprise to me was how little crunch they had, which is normally my favorite part of a classic Oreo," wrote Celia Funderburk of food and cooking website The Kitchn. "I understand they have the same chocolate and creme flavors as an Oreo, but they are largely different when it comes to texture. I feel like this is something people need to understand before trying, so they aren't disappointed that there's no crunch."
Funderburk also said she enjoyed the dark chocolatey shell the most.
"I am someone who will always opt for milk over dark chocolate, but here the more bitter chocolate balances out the sweetness of the filling," she wrote. "Assistant culinary producer Topher Leo tried one after tossing a few in the freezer to firm up and said they were amazing — almost like cookies and cream ice cream."
CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart all list Oreo Ghosts on their websites, with prices ranging from $3.96 to $6.99 per bag.
