Orders Now Being Accepted For New Rochelle Wall

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Orders are now being accepted for personalized ceramic tiles on New Rochelle High School Legacy Wall.

The wall, located on the bridge linking the old and new wings of the high school, features ceramic tiles inscribed with personal messages, including tributes to former students and teachers.

The high school’s Legacy Wall is a way to honor a friend or family member, celebrate a special occasion, publicize a club, spotlight a special achievement, memorialize a loved one, or thank a favorite teacher with a personalized tile that will be on display permanently and prominently.

The classes of 1955, 1957, and 1960, are represented on the wall. Other new tiles honor a teacher, a coach, and recent graduates; several are memorials to loved ones who have passed away.

“The Legacy Wall lets individuals, clubs, teams, businesses, civic organizations  -- everyone who is connected New Rochelle High School --  leave their permanent mark ,” said Director of the Museum of Arts and Culture Theresa Kump Leghorn.

“The tiles are a little like permanent Tweets," she said. "Depending on the size, there are only a limited number of characters, and it’s fun to see how creative people can be using just 45 to 150 characters to get their message across!”

The white ceramic tiles are available in a standard 4 x 8 for $250 including three lines, with a maximum 15 characters each.  A medium 8 x 8 tile costs $500 and includes six lines with a maximum 15 characters each. A large 12 x 12 ceramic tile is $1,500. People who purchase this tile also receive a replica tile with the inscription just as it will appear on the wall when phase three (currently underway) is completed.

Up to ten lines, 15 characters each Each size tile can be engraved with a message that will be incised into the surface and colored purple. Each line of text consists of 15 characters, including spaces and punctuation.  Those interested can visit the MAC website at www.dbmac.org, or call  (914) 576-6518 to request a brochure.

“Once an order and payment have been received, we’ll send out an acknowledgement letter and a certificate  -- suitable for framing or gift-giving -- that bears the inscription as it will appear on the tile,” said Leghorn.

All buyers will also be invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony when the new section of the wall is installed.

“When you purchase a personalized tile, your tax-deductible contribution supports the Museum of Arts and Culture, a program of the non-profit New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence,” she said.
