In spite of daily life's breakneck pace, "Play With Your Food's" multi-tasking approach to lunchtime entertainment can work into the busiest schedule. On Feb. 11 at Fairfield Theatre Company, this accomodating performance series presents readings of three, one-act plays, a meal and coffee and even a post-play discussion, all neatly compressed within the space of "lunch time."
Playwrights for this upcoming mid-day repast include television comedy writer Gary Dontzig, who has written for shows including, "Murphy Brown," "Suddenly Susan," "Becker" and "Hannah Montana." He has won three Emmy Awards and been nominated four times for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series. His humorous one-acter for the event, "Civilization," follows two lovers who visit New Mexico to check out a retirement property.Jane Anderson's entry, "Lynette at 3 a.m.," is a poignant story, featuring a young woman as its central character. In the play, she is awakened by gunshots and then, in a twist, she meets the victim. Anderson has written for TV series "Mad Men," for which she received a Writers Guild of America writing award nomination.Writer Leslie Irene Coger partners with Mark Twain for her "Play With Your Food" contribution. She has adapted Twain's story, "The Diaries of Adam and Eve." Website Twainweb.net describes the "surprising tenderness with which Twain viewed the innocence of their Edenic courtship" in his story.
