Operating Engineers Recruit Apprentices In Dutchess

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Students on the hunt for an operating engineers apprentice position will want to take part in the New York State Department of Labor recruitment from April 13 through Sept. 15, for five operating engineer (universal equipment) apprentices.

The apprentice positions are through the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Operating Engineers, Local 106.

Applications can be obtained, in person only, from Local 106, 44 Hannay Lane, Glenmont, N.Y., from 8 to 11 a.m. and from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday and second Thursday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. 

Applications must be completed on the premises. The Committee requires that applicants: Be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma and be able to read and understand English. Applicants should have lived within the geographic jurisdiction of Local 106 for at least six months. 

This includes the counties of: Albany, Broome, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Dutchess, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Otsego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Tioga, Warren, and Washington. 

Applicants should also have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes, and be able to pass a drug/alcohol screening, at the expense of the sponsor. 

Veterans will need to provide their military transfer card or discharge form DD-214.
