Occupy Darien Organizer Arrested

DARIEN, Conn. – Margaret Rague, the organizer of the upcoming Occupy Darien event, was arrested this past weekend on charges of walking in the middle of the road while intoxicated and being uncooperative with police.

Police said that they received several calls around 9 p.m., Saturday, of a woman walking in the middle of the street near 1020 Post Road, apparently trying to hitchhike. Cars were forced to drive around her.

When officers arrived on the scene, they said that there was a Volvo parked in the middle of the road, and a woman standing in front of it. She was asked to move to the side of the road, and the Volvo drove away.

Police said that once Rague was out of the street, she refused to cooperate with police, telling them she didn’t need to listen to them and refusing to tell them her name or supply identification. She was told that she shouldn’t be in the middle of the roadway, blocking traffic. Police said that she was loud and disruptive and was told several times to quiet down because there were children in the area.

She was arrested, and police said that she continued to be uncooperative and refused to be fingerprinted. The only statement that she would make to police was that she was the organizer of Occupy Darien.

Rague was charged with walking in the roadway while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, creating a public disturbance, breach of peace, interfering with an officer and refusal to be fingerprinted.
