Norwalk and Brien McMahon face Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference rivals in baseball as state tournament action gets under way Tuesday.
Norwalk hosts Greenwich at 3:30 p.m. at City Hall Field and the Senators entertain Stamford at 7 p.m. Norwalk eliminated McMahon in the first round of the FCIAC tournament last week. Norwalk lost in the semifinals. McMahon is seeded No. 3 while Norwalk is seeded 14th.
In other state tournament games Tuesday, the Norwalk girls lacrosse team travels to meet Conard at 5 p.m. The Brien McMahon girls lacrosse team hosts South Windsor at 5 p.m. Both games are qualifying round games to advance to the first round of the Class L tournament. McMahon is seeded 16th, while Norwalk is seeded 18th.
In softball, Norwalk plays at Fitch in a first-round Class LL tournament game. Norwalk is seeded 26th, and Fitch is seeded seventh.
Norwalk and McMahon athletes will compete at the Class LL outdoor championships at Willowbrook Park in New Britain. Among the athletes to watch are McMahon's Shelly Lindo, who is the top seed in 100 and seeded second in the 200, and jumper Brittany Brim. Norwalk's top girls contenders are sprinter Crystle Hill, hurdlers Ivy Chen and Katy Pachkovsky and jumper Rottisha Lewis.
McMahon's Clement Abonyi is seeded eighth in the long and triple jumps. Norwalk's boys will compete in the Class L meet on Thursday.
