Norwalk's Cranbury students and teachers dressed up as their favorite language expression Friday afternoon and paraded around the school. There were similes, homophones, idioms, synonyms, antonyms and metaphors. Jason Gorman was "the black sheep of the family" and Mateo Davalos was "throw in the towel."
The Language Parade was the culminating event of the school's "Literacy Week." On Wednesday, Herman Parish, author of the "Amelia Bedelia" books, visited the school. The books were originally created in 1963 by the writer's aunt, Peggy Parish. Herman Parish has added 19 titles, many award winning, to the series. On Monday, Jean Evans-Davila, Norwalk's language arts specialist, came in costume to the school to read Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax," a story about the impact of industrialization on the environment.
