Norwalk-based Swimmers Set County Marks

NORWALK, Conn. – Swimmers from the Norwalk-based Shore and Country Club set four records Saturday at the Fairfield County Swimming League championships at Roxbury Swim Club in Stamford. Shore & CC finished fifth in a tight race as 11 records fell at the meet.

Guido Balderrama set two marks for the club, while Wilton's Stephen Holmquist and Weston's Edward Stolarski also came away with new records.

Balderrama, competing in the 12-and-under age group, set a record in the 50-meter butterfly and 50=meter freestyle. Both of Balderrama's records broke standards set in 2004 by Kyle Kim-E. Holmquist took down Austin Bridges' 2009 record in the 100 individual medley, while Stolarski rewrote his own time in the 14-and-under 50 backstroke.

Stolarski, Holmquist, Balderrama and Austin Twiss combined to win the meet's opening race, the 200-meter medley relay. Holmquist also won the 50 breaststroke. Caroline O'Brien (17-and-under 100 individual medley) was another individual winner for Shore & CC. The 200-meter medley relay finished second with Isabel Anbar, Katie Colwell, Emma Holmquist and Jillian Carter.

Roxbury won its fourth team championship in five years with 1,291.5 points, followed by Rocky Point of Greenwich with 1,116. Lake Club (542), Newfield Swim Club of Stamford (538) and Shore and Country Club (532) were closely matched. Lake Club edged Shore & CC earlier in the week in the Division 2 championships.

Shorehaven finished 12th, and Roton Point was 13th. Complete results are available on the league website.
