A newly revitalized Boulevard Plaza was unveiled Thursday as part of New Rochelles thriving city center.
Using Federal Stimulus Funds and various grants, the City of New Rochelle implemented significant infrastructure improvements in Boulevard Plaza, which sits at the corner of North Avenue and The Boulevard. The project, which was started in 1999, was announced as finally completed on the steps of Boulevard Plaza on a soggy Wednesday morning.
Approximately $4 million were poured into the Boulevard Plaza renovation, including some from Westchester County, Iona College and federal grants. New sidewalks, trees, lighting and pavers now make up the finished project.
Roadside improvements including better lighting, new curbs, and a resurfaced roadway have allowed for better traffic flow and a safer commute along the north-south corridor. However, most of the benefits improve the cleanliness and aesthetics of Boulevard Plaza.
City officials said the beautification project came without any expense to New Rochelle taxpayers.
