Federal health officials say a nationwide recall has been issued for Live it Up Super Greens after dozens of people became sick, with some requiring hospitalization.
The FDA said on Thursday, Jan. 15, that Superfoods Inc., doing business as Live it Up, is recalling all Live it Up Super Greens products due to possible contamination with salmonella. The recall includes both Original and Wild Berry flavors.
According to the FDA, 45 people have been sickened and 12 have been hospitalized in connection with the outbreak. Health officials said the illnesses may be linked to a single product, Live it Up Super Greens. No deaths have been reported.
The recalled products were sold nationwide through the company’s direct-to-consumer website beginning in January 2025 and on Amazon starting July 30.
The recall covers all Live it Up Super Greens products with lot codes beginning with the letter A, as well as all stick pack products. Affected items have expiration dates ranging from August 2026 through January 2028.
Recalled products include:
- Live it Up Super Greens, 8.5-ounce pouch
- Live it Up Super Greens, 30-count stick packs
- Live it Up Super Greens Wild Berry, 8.5-ounce pouch
- Live it Up Super Greens Wild Berry, 30-count stick packs
The products are packaged in green pouches. The lot code is printed in black on the bottom back of the packaging. Stick pack products use the number 3 in place of the letter A.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea that can be bloody, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and cause more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
Production of the product has been suspended while the FDA and the company continue investigating the source of the contamination.
Consumers who purchased the affected products are urged to stop using them immediately and dispose of them. Customers may request a refund by emailing [email protected] and providing their name, order number, and a photo of the product showing the lot code.
