New State Budget Includes Ethics Provision

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- New York State's new $142 billion spending plan didn't include a minimum wage increase or an easing on property taxes, but it did contain ethics reforms aimed at minimizing political corruption, according to CBS News.

The reforms will force lawmakers to disclose more information regarding outside income and also require attorneys who hold public office to identify clients, CBS News reported. 

The new budget increased education spending by $1.4 billion but also included the controversial reforms to teacher evaluations, CBS News said.
