New Rochelle....Did You Know?

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - That Jacob Leisler made the Huguenot settlement of New Rochelle in 1688?

Leisler was later acting Lieutenant Governor of New York. Starting in 1689, Leisler was the leader of an insurgence titled "Leisler's Rebellion" in what was back then - colonial New York.

Leisler took over the colony until he was apprehended and executed in New York City for treason against William and Mary. A statue of Leisler currently sits on North Avenue.
