NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. Did you know that operatic baritone Robert Merrill lived at 79 Oxford Road for more than 40 years?
In 2008, the Wykagyl post office was named after Merrill, who became the Metropolitan Opera's principal baritone in 1960.
Merrill helped support the New Rochelle Opera Company and the New Rochelle Council on the Arts.
He passed away on Oct. 23, 2004, in his home while watching the first game of the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals.
