New Rochelle...Did You Know?

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - New Rochelle did you know that director and actor Elia Kazan and his family moved to 731 Webster Ave. in 1922?

Kazan's name was shortened from Kazanjoglou after his father moved to New York City. Kazan graduated from New Rochelle High School and was often seen at the New Rochelle Public Library.

Kazan produced and composed screenplays and acted professionally for eight years. He then was a stage and film director. Kazan was a member of the Influential Group Theater and co-founded the Actors Studio in 1947. This studio introduced "Method" acting to stages and cinemas in America.

This "Did You Know" came from the New Rochelle Walk of Fame behind the Library Green.
